India's Fiscal Deficit Widens in Q1 FY27
India's fiscal deficit expanded to ₹3.1 lakh crore in the first quarter of FY27, representing 18.2% of the full-year budget estimate. This is an increase from ₹2.8 lakh crore in the same period last year, driven by higher government spending. Healthy tax collections, with net tax receipts rising to ₹6.4 lakh crore, provided some support to government finances.

India Urges Global Scrutiny on Pakistan's Actions in PoK
India has called upon the international community to scrutinize Pakistan's "ruthless" use of force against peaceful protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted severe human rights violations and casualties in the region. PoK has been experiencing massive protests over inflated living costs, administrative apathy, and alleged political discrimination.

India-UK Relations Strengthened with New PM
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi congratulated H.E. Andy Burnham on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Both leaders discussed strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on technology, innovation, defence, security, clean energy, education, and people-to-people ties, in line with the India-UK Vision 2035. They also welcomed the recent entry into force of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

ISRO Concludes START Capacity Building Workshop 2026
ISRO concluded its START Capacity Building Workshop-2026 at IIRS, Dehradun, from July 27 to July 31, 2026. The workshop benefited 50 students, including 12 research fellows from IIRS and 38 undergraduate and postgraduate students selected from the ISRO-START-2026 online examination. The program included advanced lectures, interactions with scientists, hands-on exercises, and project work to enhance awareness of space-based techniques.

इसरो ने 27 से 31 जुलाई 2026 तक आईआईआरएस, देहरादून में अपनी स्टार्ट क्षमता निर्माण कार्यशाला-2026 का समापन किया. इस कार्यशाला से 50 छात्रों को लाभ हुआ, जिनमें आईआईआरएस के 12 शोधार्थी और इसरो-स्टार्ट-2026 ऑनलाइन परीक्षा से चयनित 38 स्नातक और स्नातकोत्तर छात्र शामिल थे. कार्यक्रम में अंतरिक्ष-आधारित तकनीकों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए उन्नत व्याख्यान, वैज्ञानिकों के साथ बातचीत, व्यावहारिक अभ्यास और परियोजना कार्य शामिल थे.

India's Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri visited Bhutan from July 30-31, 2026, to co-chair the 5th India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks for Bhutan's 13th Five Year Plan (2024-29). Both sides reviewed the progress of India's support of INR/Nu. 100 billion for Bhutan's 13th FYP, which includes Project Tied Assistance, High Impact Community Development Projects, Economic Stimulus Programme, and Programme Grant.

Strong El Niño Threatens India's Monsoon and Global Climate
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that a strengthening El Niño is pushing the world into "uncharted territory," with a high probability of below-normal rainfall for India's monsoon, increasing risks of drought, floods, and wildfires. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) forecasts that the El Niño system will strengthen from August to October, leading to higher global temperatures and extreme weather events. Scientists emphasize that global warming is intensifying these natural phenomena, making monsoon forecasts more challenging.
