Supreme Court Upholds Religious Freedom in Vande Mataram Plea
The Supreme Court of India observed that while the government can define the scope of the National Song, it cannot infringe upon individual and collective religious freedoms. The court stated that conscientious objectors who refuse to sing 'Vande Mataram' cannot face penal consequences. This ruling came in response to a plea by Carnatic vocalist T.M. Krishna.

India and New Zealand Ratify Free Trade Agreement
India and New Zealand have formally ratified a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is set to come into force on October 20, 2026. This agreement will eliminate import levies on all Indian goods entering New Zealand and allow 95% of New Zealand's exports to India to enter either tariff-free or at sharply reduced levies. Bilateral trade between the two countries stood at $1.3 billion in 2024-25.

Typhoon Dujuan Causes Disruption in Japan
Typhoon Dujuan struck eastern Japan on September 21-22, 2026, bringing torrential rain, strong winds, flooding, and landslides to Tokyo and surrounding prefectures.
